Using vinegar for garnishing salad dressings, pickles as well as other foods can help in reducing fat. It has also been mentioned that vinegar has powers for improving your health.

The Japanese researchers Tomoo Kondo and his colleagues had noted that vinegar was used as a folk medicine since ancient times for the treatment of various illnesses.

Modern research suggests that acetic acid, the vital ingredient in vinegar, can help to control blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and fat accumulation.

The new study showed that mice were fed a high-fat diet and given acetic acid developed significantly less body fat than other mice under laboratory conditions, said an American Chemical Society (ACS) release.

The new research reinforces the evidence that acetic acid fights fat by turning on genes for fatty acid oxidation enzymes.

The genes churn out proteins involved in breaking down fats, thus suppressing body fat accumulation in the body.

These findings were published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
