Expanding its wing in the Indian market, the Vikram Chatwal Hotels, a division of Hampshire Hotels and Resorts, plans to invest Rs 5,000-crore (Rs 50 billion) in India. The new expansion plan is to open "Dream" brand hotels in various cities of the country, including Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi. Hampshire Hotels and Resorts Chairman and CEO Sant Singh Chatwal told media persons in Kochi that, about Rs 1,000 crore (Rs 10 billion) has already been invested in the country, which will go up to Rs 5,000 crore.
Chatwal also told that, the group expected to add 2,000 rooms in Bangalore, Delhi, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Mumbai by 2010. It was also exploring markets in Chennai, Kolkata and Goa, he said. He further said that, setting up a Rs 200 crore hotel under its 'Dream' brand in Kochi was truly a dream come true. The hotel has 150 guest rooms, three exclusive club floors, roof top pool and jacuzi, five world class restaurants and bars.
Briefing the group's future plan Chatwal said that, there are plans to open another hotel in Kochi, which will have about 300 rooms. The group is looking forward to opening its Dream Brand hotels in Hyderabad and Jaipur also.
