The Indo-Fijian golfer Vijay Singh put behind a faltering performance with his putter to clinch the World Golf Championship, the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational by one shot at Firestone Country Club on Sunday, August 3.

Singh surely could not have given himself a better warm-up for the PGA Championship. He wasted away an early two-stroke lead through a bad run around the turn before going on to win his very first World Golf Championship event. ‘The Big Fijian’ fired a two-under-par 68 for a 10-under total of 270. Lee Westwood of United Kingdom concluded with a 69 to hold the second position with Stuart Appleby (68) of Australia.

Phil Mickelson of United States bogeyed three out of final four holes for a 70 and a tie for fourth at eight under with Retief Goosen (67) of South Africa. Winner Vijay Singh had flipped back to a belly putter previous month and so was pleased to sink a four-footer to par the final and conclude a PGA Tour title drought of 17 months.
