Popular actor of Tamil film industry, M.N. Nambiar passed away on November 19, 2008 after suffering from brief illness.

The 89-year-old south Indian actor, M.N. Nambiar expired on November 19, 2008 after suffering from brief illness. Nambiar had acted in a number of Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films. In his 60-year career of acting, Nambiar acted in over 1000 movies. Although he earned a special position in film fraternity for his negative roles, in his personal life Nambiar happened to be a man of simplicity and dignity.
 
The veteran actor was born on March 7, 1919 in Kannur, Kerala. From a very tender age, he had the inclination towards the field of acting. At the age of 13 years, Nambiar started performing in a drama troupe owned by Nawab Rajamanickam known as the Boys' Company. In 1935, he made his debut in acting in a costume drama called Bhaktha Ramadas.
 
Besides working in Tamil films, M.N. Nambiar had also acted in Hindi, Malayalam and Telugu movies. He also proved his talent by acting in an English movie 'Jungle' in 1952. Known for his on-screen villainy, the south Indian star has worked with renowned actors like M.G. Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan. 

M.N. Nambiar was supposed to be a very pious man. He was instrumental in instructing superstars Amitabh Bachchan and Rajnikant to undertake the annual pilgrimage to Sabarimala, the hill shrine dedicated to Lord Ayyappa in Kerala. Some of his memorable works comes out in movies like 'Aayirathil Oruvan', 'Missiyamma', 'Nenjam Marappathillai', 'Thooral Ninnu Pochchu', 'Ambikapathy' and 'Digambarasamiyar'.  The veteran actor is survived by his wife and son Sukumaran Nambiar.
