Veteran filmmaker BR Chopra passed away at his residence in Juhu after suffering from prolonged illness. The 95-year-old legendary filmmaker of India was honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to the Indian cinema. Family sources informed that the last rites of the filmmaker will held at 4.30 pm today. Besides his son filmmaker Ravi Chopra and two daughters Shashi and Neena, BR Chopra left behind innumerable fans both in India and abroad. The legendary producer-director has given Indian cinema some of the classic Hindi movies like 'Naya Daur', 'Gumrah', 'Humraaz', 'Dhundh', 'Insaaf ka Tarazoo' and 'Nikah'.
Born on April 22, 1914 in Ludhiana, Punjab, the full name of the Indian filmmaker is Baldev Raj Chopra. His brother Yash Chopra and nephew Aditya Chopra have earned good name and fame in the film industry by offering the audience a good number of hit movies. Besides cinema, BR Chopra is an iconic name in Indian television industry. One of the most popular and successful TV serial, Mahabharat was the production of this veteran filmmaker. Besides the coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Award, BR Chopra had won other awards which include Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award (2003), Filmfare Best Director Award for the movie, Kanoon (1960) etc.
