Veteran film and theatre actor Chandrakant Gokhale, who was suffering from Cancer, died on Friday, June 20, 2008 at a private hospital in Pune. The actor passed away on Friday morning at the hospital in Pune, where he had been undergoing treatment for cancer for long. He was 87 years old. Gokhale is survived by sons Vikram Gokhale, who himself is a renowned actor and Bhishma, daughter Aprajita Munje and grandchildren.
The actor’s daughter was by his side when he took his last breath. The actor was diagnosed with cancer about two- and- half months back. Gokhale dedicated 71 years of his life to theater and films and began his career with the play ‘Punha Hindu’. The veteran actor has acted in over 100 Marathi and Hindi films in his career spanning over seven decades. Chandrakant Gokhale’s acting in two Marathi films ‘Dhakti Jau’ and ‘Manini’ even won him the President’s award. The actor was also the proud recipient of eight state awards.
