Verizon Wireless, which owns and operates the second largest wireless telecommunication network in the United States on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, collaborated with LiMo foundations. The collaboration is aimed at working on Linux-based mobile operating system expected to rival a mobile system being developed by a group headed by Google Incorporation. LiMo foundation is an industry consortium dedicated to create the first truly hardware independent Linux based operating system for mobile devices.
 
Verizon Wireless is a venture of Verizon Communications Incorporation and Vodafone Group. The company revealed that it would take a seat on the foundation’s board and expects to sell its first phones based on the LiMo operating system by 2009. Kyle Malady, vice-president Verizon Wireless remarked that they will work their way up by working on simple devices. Malady revealed that their company, which is putting personal and financial resources into the system, expects to eventually have an array of LiMo devices.
