The business unit of the Verizon Communications Inc's (VZ.N), which is a prominent US broadband and telecommunications company, said on Tuesday 6 May that it will assist in the construction of the undersea cable linking Europe, the Middle East and India. In the process, it gets to spread out its global network to support Internet traffic.
 
The Verizon Business has announced that it has linked up with a group of 16 firms in order to construct a 9,000 mile optical cable system connecting the three zones. This massive undersea cable network is called the Europe India Gateway and is projected to get ready by the year 2010. The total investment for building it will be in the tune of $ 700 million.
