India's integrated media and entertainment company, UTV Software Communications has announced that it will close down its Delhi operation. The Delhi branch was offering World Movies and UTV Movies channels through UTV's film arm. According to company sources, the recent decision to do away with Delhi operation was taken to cut cost. The shutting down of the Delhi office will make the 60 employees jobless. However, the CEO of the company, Ronnie Screwvala stated that World Movies and UTV Movies will be consolidated within the Mumbai Broadcasting operations.
The CEO also informed that some employees of Delhi office will allowed to get jobs in Mumbai office. The company has also decided to shift the Noida movie channel operations to Mumbai. The company's decision to operate its services from Mumbai came out to counter expenditures. According to the CEO, the decision was taken after reviewing all its costs, including capex, new channel launches, carriage fees and other operational costs. He stated that the company is planning to expand its broadcasting business by making some serious investments.
The company's investment plans in broadcasting vertical include four entertainment channels viz. Bindass, Bindass Movies, World Movies and UTV Movies. The company also wants to acquire 20 per cent stake in its business news channel, UTVi. UTV Software Communications is engaged in multiple operations which include television, films, gaming and digital media.
