UTV Software Communications, an Indian Media and entertainment firm, has announced that it has bought away 80 per cent stake in the True Games Interactive, a gaming company based in California. This acquisition took place through its gaming arm UTV Interactive.

The True Games Interactive happens to be an online game publishing start-up. A statement issued by UTV in this regard stated that this acquisition will expand its presence in gaming platforms such as console, online, mobile, which translates into synergies across the interactive vertical going forward.

The California-based gaming company lays focus on multiplayer online game model, which will assist the UTV to foray into online gaming space with development, IP ownership and publishing. All these are in tandem with the plans of UTV for creating and possessing IPR.

‘Online gaming is the platform of the future once broadband penetration reaches across world markets. While this phenomenon is led by Asia, it has started gaining traction in the West as well. The True Games acquisition gives UTV not only presence in the international online gaming space, both in content creation and publishing, but also a fillip to achieving UTV's 360 degree gaming vision," said Preneet Malhotra, CEO, UTV Interactive.
