The Rs 300-crore broadband networking contract of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has been bagged by UTStarcom. This country wide network launched by BSNL is likely to support about 1.1 million subscribers. The UTStarcom was also involved in deploying a broadband network in the first phase of BSNL's project. In the second phase of project, UTStarcom is reported to deploy broadband network across 962 cities of India to enable the addition of 1.1 million new broadband subscriber lines.
 
In the first phase of BSNL's project, about 1.3 million subscribers have been supported. With the expansion of network, BSNL will be able to increase the broadband speed by 30 times. The exiting broadband connection of BSNL offers a speed of 64 kilobits per second (kbps). The vice-president and managing director of UTStarcom’s South Asia operations, Vijay Yadav expressed his happiness for the receiving BSNL's broadband network contract for one more time.
