A representative of the United States reached South Korea on Saturday 10 May with important documents dealing with North Korea’s nuclear activities. This move is a part of the efforts aimed towards disarming North Korea. It was informed by the state department that the 18,000 pages comprised data about three reprocessing campaigns by the North Koreans and will play a vital role in declaration on past nuclear activities.
The plutonium reactor of North Korea at Yongbyon is believed to have provided the constituents for conducting a nuclear test in 2006. But though the communist state closed down its reactor the previous year, it did not cater to the deadline of providing complete info of its nuclear programme. In 2007, however, Pyongyang conceded to relinquish its nuclear weapons programme in exchange for substantial aid and removal of sanctions. This agreement was reached following a six-party talks between China, the US, Japan, Russia and North and South Korea.
