According to US Military sources, US under its Missile-Defense System (MDS) has successfully tested anti-missile shield. Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman on the event said that US had a successful intercept at 3:29 pm (0159 IST). The test was crucial for US towards installing the same in Eastern Europe.

US Defense Department estimates that around USD 100 billion has been the total expenditure in developing and testing of Missile-Defense System. The most criticized decision from George Bush has come when president-elect Barack Obama is about to enter into the White House next month. However, Obama is expected to support MDS.

Earlier, US president George Bush intended to install a radar facility in the Czech Republic and 10 interceptor missiles in neighboring Poland by 2014. Russia has taken tough stand against installation of MDS in its borders. But, US claim that these are not intended to jeopardize interests of Russia; rather these are intended against rogue states of Iran and North Korea.
