India may be waiting with abated breath to roll out the red carpet during Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit next week, but US Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton has said that she will not hesitate to wipe out Iran incase it messes around with ally Israel when she is in power. The former First Lady belted out a strangely muscular warning to Tehran recently, relinquishing her normally careful foreign policy utterances. Clinton said US would ‘obliterate’ Iran if it attacked Israel with nuclear weapons.
These comments on Iran came from Hillary Clinton following the recent advice of Washington to India to talk tough with Iran when President Ahmadinejad visits. This suggestion was snubbed by India, which wants to repair its relationship with Iran. India had committed a crucial error after it voted against Iran at the IAEA.
Besides causing wrinkles in New Delhi, Hillary's anti-Iran comments also marked a variance from a stable stand she had earlier maintained with Barack Obama on this issue. Both had said during campaigning that they would like to begin fresh discussions with Iran over its suspected nuclear weapons program.
