US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will be arriving in New Delhi on Wednesday (December 03) to express solidarity with India following the terrorist attacks that killed nearly 200 people, including six Americans.

In a statement, White House press secretary Dana Perino said that Condoleezza Rice’s visit to India is a further demonstration of the United States' commitment to stand in solidarity with the people of India as all must work together to hold these extremists accountable. Earlier, on Sunday, Rice had a talk with President-elect Barack Obama about the situations in India.

The announcement of Rice's trip came hours after President George W Bush assured India that the U.S. government will provide full support in carrying out a proper investigation into the attacks in Mumbai.

White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said in a statement that Bush told India's Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, in a telephonic conversation that "out of this tragedy can come an opportunity to hold these extremists accountable and demonstrate the world's shared commitment to combat terrorism.

Rice, before coming to India would attend the meeting of NATO foreign ministers on Tuesday with talks focusing on a broad international agenda.
