The United States has issued a travel advisory in which it has asked its citizens to be very cautious during their visit to India. This comes just a few days after the FBI spoiled LeT’s plan for launching a terrorist attack on India through a US citizen.

"The US Government continues to receive information that terrorist groups may be planning attacks in India," the State Department said in its latest travel alert on India. This is similar to the travel advice which had been issued during teh Ramzaan-Diwali festival season.

"Terrorists and their sympathisers have demonstrated their willingness and capability to attack targets where Americans or Westerners are known to congregate or visit," the Bureau of Consular Affairs of the State Department said.

Citing that the alert is valid till Jan 28, 2010, the travel advisory mentions that the terrorist attack on Mumbai hotels last year is the evidence that terrorist groups target public places for launching their attacks.

"US citizens are urged always to practise good security, maintain a heightened situational awareness and a low profile," the alert said.

"Americans are advised to monitor local news reports and consider the level of security present when visiting public places, including religious sites, or choosing hotels, restaurants, entertainment and recreation venues," it said.

FBI had mentioned yesterday that David Coleman Headley, who was placed under FBI arrest earlier in October, had mentioned that he was maintaining close relationship with LeT for launching attacks in India.
