The United States of America, according to a Congressional report released on Thursday, May 8, 2008 lacks planning to counter radical Islamic messages on the internet. Senior Senators on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee asserted that internet’s easy access makes it possible for al-Qaeda and other terrorist sympathizers to spread their beliefs and recruit new followers. They further added that the US government needs a coordinated and thorough response on the same, which it currently lacks.

Charlie Allen, Homeland Security Department’s top intelligence official earlier this week had revealed that the number of messages al-Qaeda sends over the internet has increased over the last 18 months. The al-Qaeda is better at communicating its message to Americans than the US government is at communicating its messages, was revealed in the Congressional report. These developments result in the potential growth of ‘homegrown’ terrorists. People now become radicalized at home, without having to leave their homes or to go to a terrorist camp.
