US firm Plastic Logic has unveiled e-newspaper; measuring 8.5 x 11 inches, the paper will allow readers to annotate documents. The e-newspaper expectedly will offer option of embedded video to users. Currently, it is an un-named device. It would be manufactured in Germany. The device was shown off at an industry event called DemoFall in San Diego.
The company said the plastic reader will be able to store hundreds of business documents on a very thin digital reader. Also, it would store e-books, magazines, newspapers, PDFs and all kinds of information. Richard Archuleta, CEO of Plastic Logic said that even though the company has positioned this for business documents, newspapers (are) what everyone asks for.
The un-named device uses technology from E-Ink. E-Ink is a company that powers electronic readers from Sony and Amazon. According to reports, the screen of the Plastic Logic gadget is built with transistor arrays on flexible plastic surfaces. It would be lighter, stronger, less expensive and more environmentally friendly and better than the silicon-based systems currently in use.
