A new bill has been passed by the US Congress which sets tough new restrictions on the military aid provided by the US to Pakistan. It is also calls for the assurance Obama administration that the fund will not impact “balance of power in the region".
 
Defence Authorisation Bill for 2010 comes with amendments from Senators Bob Menendez and Bob Corker which calls for assurance from the Secretary of Defence and the Secretary of State stating that the fund does not violate the national interests of the nation.
 
The bill also calls for the providing the assurance before Pakistan is handed over the Coalition Support Fund. This bill also has provisions for keeping track of the destination of US funds.
 

US Senate has voted 68-29 in favour of $680 billion defence spending bill, whoch had a vote of 281-146 by the House of Representatives 6 on October 8. The bill now goes to President Barack Obama for his approval.
