United States of America has indicated that it favours a joint investigation by India and Pakistan into the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The Bush Administration said that a joint investigation was necessary since both countries have some information to share on the terror front.

Clarifying the matter, US State Department Spokesperson Sean McCormak said on Tuesday (6th January) that, each side has some information regarding the terror attack and together they can draw a fuller picture of the issue.

Working together is in their interest and by this they can be able to act to prevent such attacks in future as well as to bring to justice those responsible for the attacks in Mumbai, he added.

When his attention was drawn to the reported statement of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh suggesting that those who were responsible for the Mumbai attacks were supported by official agencies in Pakistan, McCormack admitted that the origins of the attack came from Pakistani soil.

Meanwhile, India is saying Pakistan can make a beginning by accepting the terrorists came from that country. MEA sources have also told media that trade sanctions could follow soon if Pakistan does not cooperate.
