As per the latest trends available for the 2009 Lok Sabha Election, Congress led UPA alliance has taken an early lead over BJP led NDA alliance.Going by the trends available for 503 of the 543 seats, UPA was ahead in 224 seats while NDA was leading in 157 seats. The Third Front was leading in 77 seats.
Among the prominent candidates who were leading in the trends were Rahul Gandhi (Amethi), Sonia Gandhi (Rae Bareili), L K Advani (Gandhinagar), Laloo Prasad (Saran), Sachin Pilot (Ajmer), Jaswant Singh (Darjeeling), Pranab Mukherjee (Jangipur), Priya Dutt (Mumbai North), Shatrughan Sinha (Patna Saheb), Vinod Khanna (Gurdaspur) and Shashi Tharoor (Thiruvananthapuram) .
Those trailing included P Chidambaram (Sivaganga), Kamal Nath (Chindwara), Renuka Chowdhury (Khammam), Ram Vilas Paswan (Hajipur) and George Fernandes (Muzzafarpur).
