The University Grants Commission has cited that it will be launching 20 scholarships for single girls to pursue M Phil and Ph D. The UGC scholarships are already available in limited numbers for pursuing Post-Graduation whereas it has mentioned that the number of scholarships made available will be increased with effect from this year.
A decision to this effect has been taken by the Commission, sources said. The scholarship will be available in Humanities and Sciences. The UGC has decided to provide the proposed scholarships to about 20 girls per year.
The students can pursue the M Phil and research in the university having special assistance programme or potential of excellence tag from the UGC. The university cosen bu the student will send a list to the UGC.
The UGC has set up two separate committees which will take a final decision on the grant of scholarship to students, sources said.
Scholarships will be made available on a monthly-basis, with the student receiving Rs 14,000 every month.
