Sanctions have been placed on the Kurdish separatists’ chief, who is handling Northern Iraq by the United States on Wednesday. These sanctions have been placed on Murat Karayilan accusing him for trafficking drugs and narcotics.
 
The US Treasury Department sanctions against Karayilan and two other senior leaders, Ali Riza Altun and Zubayir Aydar, will enable the freezing of any assets they might have in the US and ban the US citizens from engaging in any business with the three men.
 
Karayilan heads the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which seeks an autonomous state on Turkish territory. The PKK has been operating in northern Iraq and has carried out hundreds of attacks inside Turkey.
 
According to the government of the Unites States, PKK is a terrorist organization. The US has also accused PKK for involving in drug trafficking for decades.
