While children are getting ready for camping and other such social activities, the United States, it is reported, has presently got seized with the most severe outbreak of measles in seven years. This report has been confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and health officials warn that measles spreads out really fast.

Measles is very contagious disease because after a person suffering from it coughs or sneezes, the virus stays on for around two hours even after that person has shifted. Anne Schuchat, who is the director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, says that the most potent characteristic of measles is that it is very contagious.

A number of measles outbreaks between January and 25 April were announced by the CDC and it led to 64 measles cases in the US. This is the highest figure reported during the same time period since 2001. The health officials say that it is travelers from Europe and Israel who are responsible for bringing measles into the country. Anne Schuchat explains that it is because people are not getting themselves vaccinated that the measles has been able to stay on in US.
