The Union Cabinet, which is the most powerful executive body in India comprising ministers headed by the Prime Minister, inducted new seven ministers on Sunday, 6thApril. The seven ministers of the Union Cabinet include M S Gill, V Narayanasami, Jitin Prasada, Raghunath Jha, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Santosh Bagrodia and Rameshwar Oraon.
The oath taking-ceremony of these seven newly appointed Union Cabinet ministers was administered by the President of India, Pratibha Patil at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Earlier, six ministers gave in their resignations to the President and she accepted them with immediate effect. The six ministers who put forward their resignations include Suresh Pachauri, Dasari Narayan Rao, M V Rajashekharan, T Subbirami Reddy, Akhilesh Das and Manikrao Gavit.
Suresh Pachouri, Minister of State for Personnel, put forward his resignation from the Indian Government ahead of the exercise. Consequently, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president, Sonia Gandhi had a discussion to finalize the names. Earlier the same day, Suresh Pachouri who was also Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, submitted his resignation to the PM with his Rajya Sabha term ending on 2 April 2.
