Uniglobe Travel, a travel management organization, on Wednesday launched a carbon offset programme in India that will allow air travellers to purchase carbon credits to reduce the environmental impact of their travel.

Uniglobe and CarbonNeutral Co, a global carbon management firm, has launched the programme together. It said that the fund raised through the sale of carbon credits would be used in various emission reduction projects in the country.

Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel launched the programme in New Delhi. According to him aviation sector is a major contributor to carbon emission so that it has to take initiatives to check it.

"Carbon emission is something which impact all of us. It will drastically affect our coming generations. Whether the emission comes from the US, Europe or elsewhere should not be the debate, but it affects globally," the minister said.
