UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) has estimated that India is more likely to get affected with global warming. The organization sees India's geographical location, its diverse population characteristics, and highly dependency on fossil fuels the reason behind it being more prone to get affected by climate change.

The organization establishes that India's dependence on fossil fuels such as coal and oil for energy generation and transport could lead to heavy environmental, social and regulatory costs. According to the organization release, excessive use of fossil fuel will lead to drainage of the nation’s resources.

The organization has estimated that some impacts of global warming are already visible in India, including of increasing temperature, unpredictable patterns of monsoon and rainfall, decline in crop yields of up to 30 per cent, rise in sea levels, retreating of the Himalayan glaciers, and increased frequency of extreme weather conditions such as droughts and floods.
