UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon is going on a two-day visit to Nepal this October. According to reports, Nepal's Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has invited the UN chief to his country. Talking to media, the Nepalese Prime Minister informed that Ban Ki-Moon will arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Katmandu on October 30, 2008. The trip of UN Secretary-General to Nepal will be the second visit by any influential leader after former US President Jimmy Carter.
Ban Ki-Moon was also invited by the former Nepalese Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala in April this year. However, the visit of UN Chief could not take place due to some unavoidable circumstances, claimed a statement from UN. Prachanda was on a four-day visit to New York to attend the 63rd UN General Assembly. In his visit, the Nepalese PM discussed many issues with the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
The contribution of United Nations towards the Himalayan nation is immense. The UN is involved in Nepal's peace process. It is also responsible for the supervision of Nepal's arms and armies along with the Maoists. The visit of the UN Chief will be very significant one for Nepal, which has undergone much of political upheaval in last couple of years.
