The flood hit regions in Bihar are now going to receive aid from the United Nations too. The world body said on Thursday, August 29 that it has directed its agencies to help the Indian government as well as independent bodies for providing relief to victims of the flood caused by river Kosi in both Bihar and Nepal.

As per estimation, the flood has displaced more than a million people from their homes. This flood has occurred due to the Kosi river breaching its eastern embankment. The UN stated that the Kosi river has submerged hundreds of villages and damaged over 200,000 homes. It added that until the embankment of the river is not constructed, those displaced will not be able to return home.

The UNICEF is already actively providing assistance in Bihar where the Kosi flood has affected 1.4 million people. On the side of Nepal, over 50,000 people have been affected adversely by this unfortunate incident. The UN agencies are mobilizing aid to assist the displaced on both sides.
