Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said in Chennai that the unique multi-purpose national identity cards will be made available to the Indian citizens by 2010-2011.
About 1.2 crore people of the 3,331 coastal villages and cities will be getting the UID cards this year. The card will be given to 110 crore people by 2010-2011.
The Unique Identification Authority of India has been set up for the implementation of the a single id proof for the citizens which help them to avail the government service or any other personal service like seeking telephone connections in a hassle-free manner.
Flagging off the Chennai-Central-Hazrat Nizamuddin Duronto Express, the Union Home Minister mentioned that the government is working for the development of the people and nation.
"The government would also see to it that this development is shared equally among the people", he said.
Southern Railway General Manager MS Jayanth the train has 24 AC 2-Tier berths and 40 AC 3-Tier berths, as an economy AC class.
He said the train will cover 2,177 km in 27 hours and 55 minutes compared to 28 hours and 10 minutes by Rajdhani Express.
