Welcoming the UN Security Council resolution 1887 which calls for nuclear disarmament, the United Arab Emirates has mentioned that the process s an essential one.
Ali Ahmed Al-Shehhi, a member of the UAE delegation to the United Nations, while talking at the UN First Committee on ‘Disarmament and International Security’ has mentioned that The UAE will definitely been renouncing the possession of nuclear arsenals, which is a major threat to security and stability across the world.
He also mentioned that UAE, which endorsed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty way back in 1995, maintains a strong stand with respect to this aspect and has asked the nations across the world for spurning away from nuclear weapons.
Al-Shehhi also stressed the importance of reaffirming the comprehensiveness of the NPT and its support to the "Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty" (CTBT).
