The capital of Philippines, Manila and its adjoining areas were rattled by two strong earthquakes on Saturday, September 27, 2008, informed a government agency. It also pointed out that no injuries or damages were reported from these quakes. The first tremors were of 5.3 Magnitude and it rocked Manila as well as nearby areas of Mindoro, Bataan and Pampanga before noon, informed the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The agency informed that the second earthquake happened just five minutes later in the same region and was of 6.5 Magnitude. Tectonic in origin, it is reported that the epicentre of both these earthquakes were located off Mamburao town in Mindoro Occidental province, 165 km southwest of Manila. People in the areas affected by the two earthquakes should expect aftershocks within the day, cautioned Phivolcs.
