Tropical storm Hanna has killed 136 persons in Haiti. Reports from Haiti confirm that the country's third largest city Gonaives is still drenched with water. Alta Jean-Baptiste, Director (Civil Protection Office - Haiti) informed that 102 of those who died were killed in northern Haiti. She said that the most affected place is Gonaives, which has a population of 300,000.
 
The region prone to storms and hurricane will see Hanna moving towards US Atlantic coast in coming days. Earlier, a similar storm Jeanne had devastated the region in the year 2004. The storm that caused flooding and landslides claimed 3,000 lives in and around Gonaives. The devastation has led the Haitian Senate ask the government to declare a "humanitarian emergency" in the city.
 
Senators already have admitted of starvation in the city. Senator from the city of Gonaives Yuri Latortue admitted that the situation is catastrophic. He said that now it is known that the hurricane season has hit Haiti and the situation in Gonaives is truly difficult. He said that some 200,000 people in Gonaives haven't eaten in three days.
