The Ministry of Tribal Affairs of India has decided to set up National Tribal Information System (NTIS) for the welfare of Scheduled Tribes of the country. Under the new plan, various programmes will be implemented for the collection of data and information regarding the tribal community from various sources. With the help of the suitable network systems NTIS will be linked with tribal study centres and other research and academic institutions of the country.
According to an official of NTIS, the organization will be engaged in periodical analysis of the collected tribal statistics and keep the ministry informed regarding the changes. This will help the ministry to review the policies and plans that are being implemented for the development of tribal community. The national level tribal information centre will be set up in collaboration with a national level institute or university, stated the official.
Talking to media, the official of NTIS said that setting up such an information centre will help to know different facts of different tribal communities spread across the country. These informations will definitely enable the government while formulating welfare schemes and programmes for the development of the tribal communities. The information centre will approach various departments or ministries of the government for collecting statistics about tribal community.
