The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has announced new guidelines to ensure faster Internet. Under the new guidelines of TRAI, the Internet service providers (ISPs) and telecom operators are allowed to offer 50 users per unit of Internet bandwidth in case of home users and 30 users per unit for business users.  The service providers should not exceed the given limits, stated TRAI.

According the telecom regulatory body, too many users congest the available bandwidth thus causing low Internet speed. As result TRAI has decided not to allow the services providers to accommodate excessive users in one unit of bandwidth. The regulatory body has also notified the service providers to make the availability of the minimum required bandwidth in their network as specified on the basis of number of subscribers.

As per TRAI's guidelines, all subscribers should be informed regarding Internet and broadband services being offered to them by thier respective service providers. TRAI stated that the service providers will have to come up with the contention ratio for different Internet and broadband services quarterly on their website.  The contention ratio refers to number of users per unit of bandwidth. TRAI has taken the new decision after receiving increasing complaints of poor quality broadband.
