TRAI restructuring the cable TV industry has issued final guidelines for cable TV operators. Earlier TRAI chairman Nripendra Misra wrote a letter showing the concerns of cable TV operators who employ advanced distribution technologies and face stiff competition from telecom operators to I&B Secretary Sushma Singh, and had asked for guidelines for same.

Telecom regulatory body earlier has recommended to the information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry for a comprehensive understanding where the registration for cable TV operators must be replaced by an inclusive licensing framework to meet existing challenges posed by telecom operators. Arguably, TRAI favors greater emphasis on network digitization and increased addressability.

Now, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has come up with final guidelines for restructuring the cable TV industry. Earlier the body has asked for industry inputs by drafting and sending recommendations for the purpose of coming into a conclusion of making a comprehensive guideline for cable TV operators.
