World's leading carmaker, Toyota has unveiled its revamped version of Prius petrol-electric hybrid car in Japan. As per the company, Toyota has 80,000 advance orders of Prius cars in Japan. The revamped version of Prius hybrid car comes with a bigger, 1.8-litre engine and better mileage of 50 miles per gallon. The price of the new Prius will start from 2.05 million Yen ($21,620).
Prius is the world's best-selling hybrid but it is facing tough competition from rival Honda's cheaper Insight model. According to JPMorgan Securities auto analyst Takaki Nakanishi, the hybrid market is going to be one of the fastest-growing segments in the world. While unveiling the third-generation Prius, executive vice-president Akio Toyoda said that the price of the upgraded model is about $3,000 less than the previous version.
In Japan, Toyota expects to sell 10,000 units of the new Prius hybrid car in one month. The company has set a global sales target of 400,000 units for the car in 2010. However, Toyota has not revealed anything about the global launch of the revamped version of Prius hybrid car. The car made its debut in 1997 and now it is in its third generation.
