Toshiba has one again launched a new line of portable storage devices, this time with added features such as password protection and system back-up facility.

According to a survey by the Consumer Electronic Association, users prefer to back-up their entire system as opposed to only select-files. This has prompted Toshiba to include back-up capabilities in these new drives.

It is USB 2.0 compatible and includes software for Windows and Mac compatibility that ensure easy back-up and retrieval of data that could have been lost due to accidents. It comes with NTI back-up to make restoration of the data simple which can be done without having to restore the system. It also scans the system to check for harmful viruses.

For Mac users, the HDD compresses an NTI shadow that identifies files and folders to back-up and schedules a convenient time for storage.

The USB HDD also features a drive-space alert that warns the user of low-drive space. The drives have 256-bit encryption. It also includes other added features as a shock sensor, ramp-loading technology and anti-slip footpads to keep the drive fixed in one position. The device is also incredibly light weighing in at a little more than 150 grams.

It comes in two versions, 320 GB and 500 GB and is available in four colors: Vivid White, Liquid Blue, Komodo Green and Rocket Red.

The HDD is available online at the company website and is priced at (approximately) Rs. 7,300 for the 500 GB version and Rs. 5,900 for the 320 GB one.
