Tamil Nadu government in its latest decision following up decisions by Delhi and Andhra Pradesh governments to subsidize gas cylinders has decided to give subsidy of Rs 30 per cylinder. The eligibility criterion has been set up for this purpose. Those who have only one cylinder will be eligible for the subsidy. The decision has come up after the central government decided to hike gas cylinder’s price by 50 Rs each.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi speaking on the occasion of a rally organized by women’s wing of DMK said that this would lead to an extra expenditure of Rupees hundred crore to the state government, however he believed it will benefit some fifty lakh families in the state. Now after the decision customers need to pay only Rs 20 extra on the cylinder while the government would share the balance. Further he added that he had arrived at the decision after consulting the finance secretary.
