In order to tackle competition from grey market, watches of Chinese origin and cheap rated local brands, Titan Industries launched its low-priced watches under Sonata brand in Bangalore on September 2, 2008. These types of super fibre watches ranging between Rs 275-Rs 550 are especially manufactured keeping in mind the need and requirement of the rural and semi-urban youths.

According to the managing director of Titan Industries Bhaskhar Bhat, the introduction of super fiber watches would help Titan Industries to reach the middle-class section of people of India at an affordable cost. Further it would help to wipe out innumerable watches of Chinese origin that accounts for nearly two-third of Indian watch market.

Reports confirm that Titan is aiming to sell out at least one million units of Super Fibre range of watches by the end of next year, for which the industry has pledged to take every possible initiative. The industry is supposed to grow its business by 26 per cent by the end of 2008. The new rages of watches from Titan would have Indian Skipper, Mahender Singh Dhoni as the brand ambassador.
