The Time magazine has adjudged US President-elect Barack Obama as the Person of the Year. While citing the reason for nominating Obama, the magazine stated that Obama has the ability to motivate the voters which he has proved by becoming the first African-American president of US. The charismatic leader has turned things in his favour as he was far behind when the US presidential campaigning began.

The US magazine stated that Barack Obama has achieved almost impossible accomplishments in 2008. Time cited the example of Obama's triumph over much-favoured Hillary Clinton in the six-month-long Democratic presidential primary season. The magazine picks up the person of the year on the basis of the impact made by the individual on news throughout the year.

Time's person of the year also went to Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Microsoft founder and philanthropist Bill Gates, and US President George W Bush in past years. Barack Obama has constantly made into the top stories of the year which ranked him above others to become the person of 2008.
