The march of the Tibetan exiles' that began on foot has reached Bodh Gaya in Bihar from the National Capital New Delhi on May 29, 2008. The march had started from Delhi on April 9, 2008 in which around 135 Tibetans participated which also included five women and an 80-year old man in this march.
In order to create some kind of awareness and acquire support for their cause, they distributed pamphlets all along the way. They also offered their prayers for the Tibetans who lost their lives during the Chinese crackdown in Tibet in the last couple of months. Sonam Dorje, who is a member of the Tibetan Youth Congress, said that the main mission or aim of this march on foot is to pay their respect to the hundreds of Tibetans who were killed in Tibet during the past two months. He further added that they will offer prayers and they also seek the support of the Indian citizens and the Indian Government for the Tibetan cause.
The people of Tibet have been protesting against the Beijing Olympics in order to seek whatever support they can gather from the international community at large, towards their cause. To bring a peaceful end to this growing tension, the Chinese officials had earlier also met envoys of the Dalai Lama. These talks were held just a few months before the Olympics were to be held in Beijing in the month of August and weeks after the crackdown happened.
