During a new research, the palaeontologists have discovered three new Aussie dinosaur skeletons from Queensland.
According to the reports two belong to herbivores and one carnivore an dthese were excavated from the Winton formation. These dinosaurs are believed to have roamed on the land during the Cretaceous period that is about 98 million years ago.
“Dinosaurs diversified and spread all over the world but Australia, being a very isolated place at the end of the world, developed its own unique fauna,” said the leader of the research.
A new genus of carnivore, called the Australovenator by the team, is the most carnivorous dinosaur skeleton that has ever been excavated from Australia.
Dr Scott Hocknull said that Australovenator, which has been given the nickname ‘Banjo’, was the cheetah of its time. “It was two metres from the hip, six metres long and built for speed,” he said.
The plant-eaters have been given the names ‘Clancy’ and ‘Matilda’. These were titanosaur sauropods.
According to Hocknull, Clancy had a built similar to hippopotamus where as Matilda was like giraffe. “It was 16 metres high with a long neck and small head,” he said.
The skeletons of Matilda and Banjo were discovered together from the bottom of an ancient billabong.
