A powerful bomb blast inside a passenger train in Assam claimed three lives and injured another 30 people on December 2. As per the official source, the explosion took place inside a carriage of an Inter City passenger train at the Diphu railway station which is about 300 km east of Guwahati. The passenger train was on its usual journey from Guwahati to Tinsukia. A railway official informed that the deafening blast went off when the train was parked at the Diphu railway station.

The bomb blast killed one person at the spot while two other succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital. According to a police official, a large number of women and children were wounded in the blast; some of the injured people are in serious conditions. An eye witness named Vishal Kumar informed that the high-intensity explosion blew off the carriage with people tossed up in the air. So far, no militant group has claimed the responsibility of the bomb blast.

The region where the blast took place is dominated by the outlawed Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF), a rebel group fighting for an independent homeland for the majority Karbi tribe. The police official said that investigations are on to find out the possible involvement of KLNLF militants in the train bomb blast. It is worth mentioning that barely a month ago, Assam was jolted with serial bomb blasts on October 30 in which about 95 people were killed and 300 injured.
