The owner of one of the most popular footwear all over the world, Thomas Bata passed away in Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto on September 01, 2008. The 93-year- old veteran did extreme hard work to expand his shoe company under the brand name of Bata in almost 50 countries of the world over a period of almost 40 years.
Thomas Bata was one of the good friends of India and the outlets of Bata here at India are as popular as the man himself. Bata shoes are not popular here at India only but are famous all over the world with over 5000 outlets in more than 50 countries of the world. The company employs over 40,000 people with production facilities available in more 24 countries.
Mr. Bata is survived by his wife, son and three daughters. At the moment his son Thomas George Bata is head of the company and manages the business quite efficiently as company claims to serve one million customers globally on a daily basis. Mr. Bata was conferred the life time achievement award by C-IBC in 2007 for his achievement in the field of footwear.
