An international team of astrophysicists led by CRAQ (the Centre de recherche en astrophysique du Quebec) of Canada has found the biggest star of the universe. According to CRAQ of Universite de Montreal researchers the new star of a binary system with a mass 116 times greater than that of the Sun, waltzing with a companion of 89 solar masses has been found.

According to physicists the star is located in the massive star cluster NGC 3603, the super-massive star system. It has been given the name A1, has a rotation period of 3.77 days. Before A1, it was the Pistol Star which was the biggest and brightest; it has 10 million times brightness than our Sun. However, it weighs less than 100 solar masses.

The newly found star part of a binary system is 20,000 light years from Earth in the southern Milky Way. Its companion star has been weighed in at an impressive 84 solar masses. According to Michael Burton, an astrophysicist at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, the important point is that this appears to be the most massive star that has reliably been measured.
