Twenty20 seems to be the flavor of the season. After the lucrative IPL, Allen Stanford, a Texas billionaire has offered $100 million to England for playing five Twenty20 matches against his West Indies All Star Team. Meanwhile Giles Clarke, the chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said that England will most probably take part in the competition. The winner gets to take away $20 million a match.
The first match of the $100 million series will take place in Antigua on 1st November. Stanford said that the series could be an annual event with alternating venues each year. Stanford has also expressed his desire to create an English Twenty20 league.
It is to be noted that last year Stanford had funded a full regional Twenty20 series in the West Indies, which gave the West Indies Cricket US$ 100 million in three years.
