Tata Teleservices, the fifth-largest mobile company in India, has come up with plans to invest in the GSM Sector. Tata, presently a CDMA player, recently came up with its pan-India, multi-billion investment plan in the GSM sector. Experts say that as the GSM forms around 75% market share in Indian mobile market, the CDMA players are keen to enter it. That is why, after the successful venture of Reliance in the GSM sector, Tata also plans to start its GSM services very soon.
Tata Teleservices, which currently has a subscriber base of 32 million people in India, plans to increase its reach in every corner of the country through its GSM services. Mr. Anil Sardana, Managing Director of Tata Teleservices, recently said that the company has received spectrum for GSM in all the circles, except Delhi, and would launch the GSM mobile services in the southern states soon, followed by eastern India.
Tata Teleservices also made it very clear that it does not want to play the pricing game by offering low tariffs to woo customers in the beginning. The company, on the other hand, plans to target the mid and higher segment customers through the unique value-added services that do not exist in India. The services will be provided through its GSM network, in collaboration with NTTP Japanese operator DoCoMo.
