Tata will come up with Safari-Sumo crossover; displayed in an Auto Expo in 2006. The decision has come when Tata has already unveiled the next generation Indica. Along with new Safari-Sumo crossover, there would be a next generation variant of Indigo. Not only this, the company also plans to introduce next generation models of the Safari and Sumo.
Passenger Cars Division (Tata Motors) President Rajeev Dube said that the company will come up with the crossover Safari and Sumo, which will be followed by the next generation Indigo, probably on the same platform as the Indica. According to company source the company has already spent Rs 1700 crore on the new Indica platform.
Rajeev Dube talking about the tough macro-trends said that these are likely to keep pressure on car sales this fiscal. He felt that overall industry sales growth would be in high single digit percentage points this fiscal against the 11.7% in 2007-08. Mr Dube, however refused to give any timeline for the launch.
