Tata Motors, India’s largest automobile manufacturer, has plans to launch a light commercial vehicle which will even be smaller than its LCV Ace.

A capital expenditure of Rs 10,000 crore has been earmarked by the company for the same for the next 2-3 years.

"We are seriously looking at a smaller Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) than Ace which has a capacity of carrying a load of 750 kg," Tata Motors Managing Director P M Telang told the media during the SIAM annual convention in New Delhi.

He added that the smaller LCV will be rolled out from the Pantnagar facility of the company, which can produce about 2.25 lakh units per annum.

When asked about the company's capital expenditure outlay, Telang said: "At any point of time the company works with a capex of Rs 6,000-10,000 crore for a 2-3 year period."

But further details of the utilization of this fund have not been disclosed.

Tata Motors would roll out a new Indigo within the next 2-3 months, Telang said.

On sales, Telang said: "Our LCV segment is doing good, but the medium and heavy commercial segment is flat in the first four months of this fiscal. Passenger car segment is growing faster."

He told that Tata Motors expects positive sales during this fiscal and added that the total production utilisation of its plants is about 65 per cent at present.

On its small car Nano, Telang said: "The production at the Sanand plant in Gujarat will start by the end of this financial year."
